This one is made from Brown mallee (stabilised) and cellulose acetate (threads and section).

The cellulose parts are glued into the wooden pieces using 2 part epoxy. Then the drilling, boring, threading and shaping.

This model has a smooth profile when capped (no lip between the cap and the barrel).

It has 13mm cap threads stepping up to 15mm barrel diameter. Jowo no6 nib.

I think the stabilised wood, when buffed/polished, provides a decent compromise between offering some degree of durability and protection whilst maintaining a natural look and feel. I don’t apply any finish other than beeswax. I do advise customers who buy these to take care when filling etc to avoid ink staining the wood. I’ve done a few tests and it varies a lot from wood to wood and even the degree of figure within the same types of wood.

Cheers
Ash

Yet another absolutely stunning pen!Do you ever consider fitting a pocket clip Ash?I may be wrong here,it seems that "modern" fountain pens are not fitted with a clip.If I was going to purchase such a fine pen I would not want it moving around in my pocket,I would want it secure.Obviously this is a subjective matter, one mans meat etc. What do other members think?

All the best,

Thanks Geoff

As far as clips go, in my case it’s generally driven by the demand. When I first started selling to the public I offered them as an option but very few people took them up (hardly any in fact). When I asked why it was mostly down to the fact that many of the fountain pen users I deal with tend to keep them as “desk pens” and rarely take them out. When they do they use pen sleeves and pen rolls etc. Most said that they didn’t want the clip to obscure the material. That’s not to say that there is no demand for clips, and of the pens I’ve made for myself most do have clips as I, like you, prefer to have them. And since most commercial pen manufacturers have clips on their pens it’s a bit of a funny nuance with maker pens I guess. But that’s just my experience and others nay have a different view.

Cheers

Again Ash your workmanship is outstanding the acrylic works well with the Brown mallee. The finish is as good as always I love seeing your work as this is the sort of quality I aspire too
