If you have visited my website Flickr gallery you will have seen these before but as mentioned in the HRB Jr. Gent. thread here is a chrome bolt action kit in native Scottish burr elm.

I find that other turners and woodworkers are happy to give away small offcuts of burr oak and elm that are ideal for pen blanks so making these can be a lot cheaper than using exotics like HRB. The bolt action pens are very popular with gun clubs and the shooting fraternity.

And here is a batch I made for a gun club member to give as Christmas presents, the four on the left are burr elm, the next two cross cut walnut and I can't remember what the other one on the right is but looks like it is probably mopane;

Thanks chaps, but these are the easiest pens to make ever, a single straight barrel. £12 for the kit (if you buy them in large enough batches), free wood, half an hour or less to make and they sell for £35 to £40.

Thanks for that, its a shame we have to go abroad to get our kits and accessories when such as turners retreat is only about 20 miles away. :down:

1 board foot = 2.35973722 litres :face:

Wm460, you haven't been hanging around with Ms. Gillard, have you? Your answer, while completely accurate (I trust) was monumentally unhelpful!

:funny::funny::funny:

Yes, a 'board foot' is one foot by one foot by one inch thickness. Mostly American usage, I discover, although my local sawyer who just retired from the Met sells me timber like that ... :nooidea:
