Hi all,

Well this one's come around again... I paint the inside of my blanks when they may become translucent. I also try to use a colour closest to the blank, unless I want to lighten or darken it slightly. I don't mix anything with the glue as it's inside the hole which is painted for which I use Gorilla PU as with all my blanks. What do I use, well working in a school has its advantages.... Children's acrylic paint, it's pretty quick drying and plentiful :whistling: Aplication is easy too with a cotton budIMG_20211101_135337.jpg

What's everyone else's go too method

I'm a "paint the hole, not the tube" kind of guy too. But I don't use paint - I have an embarrassingly large collection of different coloured nail polishes for the purpose, which I get from pound shops for well, a pound. I turn my collar up and wear dark glasses before purchasing - obviously

Do you thin them down? I would of thought nail varnish would be too thick and hinder the tube going in.

I'm a paint the hole person as well.

Tend to use BBQ skewers with cotton wool wound around the tip. One I picked up from a oil painting restorer. I keep telling grandson I'm doing it because I'm saving the planet..... :winking:

I glue with two part epoxy, always mix a very, very, very small amount of acrylic in the mix to make sure all areas are covered so to speak.

No, I use them straight from the bottle. The differential between the tube o/d and the drill hole is usually enough to allow for a few microns of Rimmel's finest, and I use PU glue. You get to know the quirks of each kit as you use them over time - some of them recommend a drill size which is too tight but that doesn't mean you can't decide on a different drill size for yourself. I build in a 0.3 differential or thereabouts on all the kits I design, so there's always plenty of wriggle room, and in fact if you're a CA addict for the glue, you might even want to use a smaller drill size.

Always used CA glue. Thick "Everbuild" CA glue for the tubes, medium for filling of cracks in wood surface before turning and thin for running into hair line cracks during and after up to the final finish of the pen. Have used on three occasions, white painted tubes, I sprayed with white undercoat car body paint, the CA glue did not interfere with the tubes. All white wedding pens, still OK to this day as I know all the couples that had them. I also use the same CA glue on the high gloss finish on some of the woods I use.

Have never used acrylic so no experience of painting tube/hole.I always use gorilla glue for gluing tubes into blanks.I hate the smell of ca although it does come in handy when mixed with a little sawdust for filling small cracks in bowls etc.
