Noticed in the paper this morning that Aldi are selling a full size lathe for £90 complete with 3 chisels. I have had a couple of tools from Aldi which have proved to be top quality. The lathe comes with a 3 year warranty (Record eat your heart out) and will almost certainly have been made in Germany. Anyone looking for a cheap lathe should take a look.

I started with a Clarke same as that and it still goes well after years of punishment.
A boat builder in Southampton has it now and regularly turns on it.
Not a lathe I want back but it did me well to start with, I don't knocking it.
Look at the router table for £30 and the bench grinder with belt sander, Maybe not top quality but hey good value.

It strikes me that even if you don't need a lathe £90 is not too much for a 400W motor, pulleys and belt. Jim, that would be just the thing for a drum sander. Just sayin' ...

Just had a look ..think I'd sooner spend 90 quid on sumat else. Did buy the work gilet at £9.99 so no more wood chips down the neck ..also bought the ash sucker-uper attachment for the vacuum cleaner £17.99... works a treat for sucking up all the mess I make ,plus Mrs Ed can't now complain that I've blocked up the hoover. It should also work as a dust extraction system too ....but not tried that yet. Looked for the grinder /sander but none in stock !

I had a look at the router table and nearly bought one, it is the same as the Trend one I have that's why I didn't buy it.
I already have one I never use and I paid considerably more for that, I think its a good buy if its used otherwise it will sit in store shed waiting with the Trend.

Take a guess
..also bought the ash sucker-uper attachment for the vacuum cleaner £17.99...

Is that the thing that separates the dust etc out before it gets it the vacuum bag?

If it is how well does it work? At that price even I could be tempted :winking:
