Casting snake skins.

My first thought do not use cast skins in preference to full skins. Coincidentally I had in my hand and will turn soon a pair of cast Rattlesnake skins blanks prepared by an expert thats the way it will stay for me.

There are many reasons not to do them yourself Mark but if you do good luck mate. Check out the IAP Library.

Go on give it a try nothing ventured nothing gained go for it mate I have noticed in the past some skins are dyed different colors

You can dye the cast skin, I use Axminster spirit dyes and you can dye them all one colour or paint the patterns and colours of the original snake. I get the cast skins from a local pet shop. They are resisting giving me any dead snakes on H&S grounds insisting that the have to burn them, but I keep telling them that I am prepared to go in and skin then they can burn the carcass, I hope they will come round.

So do you paint the tube, colour the skin, and glue it on and then cast it as normal?

Yes although on one I made I glued the tube into some white acrylic and turned it just under size then glued the skin on and finished it to size with CA.
