Hi
Newbie pen turner, got a basic kit at present and turned a couple of reasonable slimline efforts so far. Enjoyed doing them though....love the acrylic look, and also the wood versions. Having issues with drilling at present as everything appears to be not long enough....it's probably me being a righ thicko...will figure it out eventually lol

Welcome to the forum, Colin. If you say what the problems are with drilling you will get the answers, at least one of them will be right:banana:

Welcome to the house of fun. First floor is for questions on penturning but carry on up for fun fun fun. They're all a bunch of nutters on here you know Colin.

Being from Cornwall.... are you a pirate? :funny:

to ensure the correct length of your blank cut it slightly longer than needed, drill the hole, glue the tube in and then cut it back using a mill.

Ask any questions Colin, no questions are stupid unless they're not asked.

Wotchya Colin and welcome to the funny farm init?

My guess is your talking about the quill travel on your bench drill init?
Make a little jacking platform to lift the blank up the drill bit and take it in two bites.
Or drill on the lathe then the problem doesn't arise.

Hello and welcome Colin the more the merrier. I hop you are not trying to drill a two part pen and doing so with the blank as one piece of wood, cut in half and drill from the centre outwards on each half.
