I have a bunch of cutoffs from a furniture factory. They are too short to make blanks cut long grain but xcut works ok. Blanks are Walnut and Cherry. I have added stained Walnut flat projects with Cherry and like the warm look so I thought why not stabilize Walnut with red colored juice. I also thought to try blue colored juice. In my opinion the Walnut was a flop. Wife likes the red one but I don't think its enough of a contrast to make the effort worth while. If you look close you can just see a hint of color in both the red and blue blanks.

The Cherry on the other hand surprised me. I didn't expect the results I got. I definitely like the red better than blue. Wife thinks both are great. Guess the next step is to turn a couple pens and evaluate further.

What say you all?

Here are close ups of both ends of the Cherry blank. Forgot to mention all blanks are stabilized. Turned, sanded and Beal buffed.

With the walnut it seems to have enhanced and highlighted the grain the cherry has realy made the grain pop as well a give it colour I like them all Terry some years ago we had a lot of maple sent over from America that they had done exactly the same with the blue was to deep red looked brown so if you crack it you could be on a winner

I'm with grandad - the walnut looks nice if muted, the cherry just pops with a bang. How deep does the stain go - all the way to the centre? Love them!

First saw your stuff on the IAP Terry and it's your imagination that impresses me, like others I'm for the Cherry. But I've struggled when I've tried cross cut

Look forward to seeing them on some pens.:thumbs:

I like them all, the cherry maybe more. It has similarities to a sabatier effect.

These blanks didn't need to be stabilized but stabilizing makes it much easier to turn.
