I guess you can say i am a rough splinter at wood turning, coming from an engineering background all my cutting tools were firmly bolted down.
To me holding the tool bit AND turning was a recipe for an accident lol. Well i made a leap of faith in that you don't hear of many cases of injured wood turners, i bought a small Record lathe, a DML24X for the princely sum of £30.00.

I have made my first pen blanks (without a visit to the hospital), they are walnut and about to put a finish on them.
I have to say that i enjoyed what little i have done hence being here. I will be making posts and picking your brains no so be aware.
Enough ramblings and on.........................

Welcome aboard Ken. Good to have another wood butcher on board. Your engineering skills will serve you well. Think of the jigs you'll be making to aid your turning. Looking forward to seeing what you make.

Welcome to the playground of pen turning, some of them here are the naughty boys and girls and quite often get sent to the headteacher(known on here as Terry Chairman of the plonkers club)

Welcome Ken to the world of precision engineering :funny:

I look forward to seeing your work and ridiculing your questions... well I look forward to seeing your work and helping to answer some of your questions anyway. You've certainly chosen a good username as Woody is the grandest of grand turners on this site and should you follow his steps you won't go far wrong.

Hi all, so many replies lol.

I would not put myself in woody's class by no means, it's just a way to separate the different forums i belong to. I have made a few pieces of furniture and belong to a uk wood forum. The FXR bit is a left over from when i owned a Harley, now i own a VW trike so use that as well.

Welcome, IIRC there was another trike nutter on here a while back, or am I getting confused with somewhere else? :thinks:

Anyway, enjoy your stay and put up some pictures.

Welcome aboard.
With that description of your username you're clearly as mad as some of the others on here, (not me:whistling:) so in very good company.
You'll find this a very amiable place to frequent with none of the vitriolic arguments that pop up on UKW (if that's where you refer to) There is occasionally a spitting out of dummy episode but only when the medications are forgotten:funny:

Only downside is that you might be expecting a response to a post 'cos you know the members are on line and it doesn't appear. Don't worry, they haven't "expired", just fallen asleep with laptop on knee and drink in hand. - Don't ask how I know that :goesred:
