As I was in London on holiday this week I was able to visit the Wizardry in Wood exhibition. There were some stunning pieces there. Had a chat with a penturner, Mr. Ron Caddy. He had some really lovely pens on display. There was an interesting demonstration by 2 people turning bowls on pole lathes. A very worthwhile visit I thought. Were any other members of the forum able to make it?

Ron was/is a member on here. He has done some interesting things in the time I have known him, including a collaboration with a company in India. A very talented Turner and great ambassador for penturning too. Glad you enjoyed your trip, its held in Carpenters Hall, the home of the Institute of Carpenters (of which I am a member 30+ years) I am now a fellow :winking:

Yes it was an impressive venue and it was a pleasant chat with Mr. Caddy.
Judging by the 'flat 'at' you are wearing I assumed you were a fellow

With the IOC you get titled letters after your name you start as a member MIOC, now I am in titled to use FIOC after my name as a 'fellow' and can use their crest too as I said, been a member for years but not much happens as a group here in Kent:sob:

Surprisingly enough for a large & diverse city, Manchester seems to have no woodturning clubs/societies & that was one reason I enjoyed the expo. It was good to see the work of other people, and chat to the exhibitors & visitors. The standard of work was very high!

There are some pen Turners that meet at Harrogate twice or more a year and a couple of big woodworking shows that way too:thumbs::thumbs:

If you want to catch a train every 2 weeks to Chesterfield or Sheffield I would be more than happy to pick you up and take you to the club I am joining :thumbs:

I will even take you back to the station at the end of the night :banana::banana:

I was aware of that, thanks, may well get to the next one as a friend of mine wants to go whenever it happens.

That is so kind of you Garno, thank you for the offer. I'll have to decline though as I wanted somewhere local, and it was more of a rant anyway! But none the less it was both kind and generous of you to offer. I hope you enjoy the club you are about to join. Cheers! ?

Have a check on the club list on the AWGB web site there are three that I can see which are just outside are they too far. Also try googling for woodturning clubs near you as some are not members of the AWGB

Thanks Dalboy, duly googled, the only clubs near me all seem to be AWGB. The one in Stockport would be the best as it's on a direct bus route. I'll wait till spring 2022 then contact them - Cheers

Tony, I am a member of Red Rose Woodturning Club. We meet third Monday each month in Bilsborrow near Preston if that’s not too far. Pen turners there too.

Know and met Mr Caddy, I'm sure he on here but not heard anything from him on here lately. Been in touch with him quite a few times leading up to the Wizardry of wood as I made him some "special" boxes up for his dual pen kits. So no doubt you would have seen those as well. :winking: Ron has been a very good customer for a few years now, and hope for many more.

Nice that my pen boxes were at the Wizardry of wood. Didn't get there myself as was on holiday and had time with my 3 granddaughters.
