After finishing my exams and leaving school, I had enough free time to produce some more knives and a few other turning related items, the firesteel handls were turned by drilling a blank with a hole slightly smaller than the firesteel rod and held using a bar the same size as the fire steel rod in a chuck with a live center for support.

These are knife sets with the hunter in mind. the blade is a quality cudeman 440 stainless, 3 1/4" drop point blank (one of spain's finest) and 7 3/4" overall length. the scales are burr elm and flamed maple, with firebrick red fibre liners. also fitted with 4mm brass mosaic pins, and 6mm brass lined lanyard hole. the firesteels are 10mm x 100mm long, and fitted with matching handles, on the end of which is a 12mm working compass.

Firesteels are very popular in the bushcraft community, they produce a shower of very hot sparks when struck with a hard piece of metal, like the back of a knife.

the set is all housed in a quality spanish leather sheath, which can be worn thru the belt buckle, or hung through the loop

Hope you all enjoy

Matt have not seen you on site for ages my blood quickened I have spent much time in the last two weeks on this subject soaking up all I can for a new challenge I received, learning how to pin and make mosaic pins, how to make scales etc I dragged out my mini drill press to drill out existing pins pre making six scales of note and nearly finished the dust extraction on my 14 inch bandsaw I will use for cutting the scales 140 by 20mm before shaping sealing and pinning. I dont have a fancy knife makers grinder but I do have an attached narrow band on the end of a double ended grinder or two.

Your knife work leather sheaths fire sticks making finishing astonishes me with the perfection you have and the outright talent it pushes me even harder now to keep going with my project.

How far down do you sand the scales mate I intend to use CA to finish mine to seal against moisture and sweaty hands.

Thanks for this magnificent work mate always a pleasure to see it and your extreme photography I seek to acheive in Digital camera work.
