Apparently yesterday is soon enough for the replacement to be ready :thinks:

Why wasn't it done last week? If not the week before? :whistling::wink::funny:

Tell them they can have it next Thursday. Then phone them up Monday afternoon to tell them it's ready. They will still impressed

Is it done yet?

Unfortunately even though I'm back in the workshop the answer is no :rolling:

This mornings stair repair went well until I got the inevitable "while you're here" & "there's some movement in this newel post"

Well there would be as clearly the bloke who fit it hadn't got a clue, you really shouldn't be able to take a photo like this after a newel post has been installed.

It simply pulled apart, very little effort needed, so I'm back in the shop running out timber to fix a problem I wasn't expecting :nonono:

Looks like the finial will be tomorrow's first job

I guess in the UK these posts must abound with so many upstairs down stairs needing repair kids give them curry racing up and down.

I make big money doing work like this. I bought my Oneway 12/24 with money made from producing stair balusters for a Victorian era home. Custom jobs are $60per hour plus material.

Cheers Bill.

My 1/3 horse power Meddings pillar drill just hadn't got the power to drill 2" mortises in end grain Sapele, so yesterday evening before the curry Jon drilled out the mortises on his Wadkin borer, I'd taken over a 2" colt saw tooth bit but really didn't expect this :-

What an awesome machine, knife through butter comes to mind, I definitely want one of those

So here's the finished finial dry fitted together.

I'm pleased with how it turned out but more importantly so is Jon
