I've been asked by a mate to make a workbench so I thought I'd take some photos as I progress with it to share with the forum.

This is the basic design

Nothing fancy, the area between the legs will be a cupboard with doors on the front. I'd recently been offered some pine in the shape of an old cabin bed the timber from which I thought would be ideal for the building of the base of the bench, these are the large frames being dismantled yesterday.

The rails are 5x1" planed & as there were some longer ones I decided on planing them up & gluing two together to make the rails for the bench, they planed up well.

After a night in clamps they came out like this

So today I planed up the long rails & glued them together

After which I planed up the 3x3" for the legs & also the rails I'd glued up yesterday.

I'm hoping to get some time on this in the week as a project like this tends to take over the workshop

Very nice Doug, I look forward to seeing the finished product... No wonder there is a shortage of clamps in the world :funny:
