As far as i recollect when I broke one its not so much a thread as a spiral with a dimple, sometimes, and the dimple seems to create the lock on the end. Not all of them have the lock.

My practical experinces especially in the last while shows the thickness of the metal on the pressing end is just rubbish, folding at any but light pressing. I felt obliged to purchase a 1/4 inch adjustable reamer (much cheaper I hope in the UK and every Slim or Streamline pen I make I ream a little out to receive the winder ,tip, and top. I am concerned also about the too tight fit at the winder top junction, heaps of rubbish abound these days.

In answer to you re thread size strip a couple and check out the construction,as a rule when pressing the winder I check the movement on the so called thread and press with the full forward winder..

Peter. One time I bought a hundred or two winders because they allowed the refill to push back in during use horrible manufacture.None of my slims are casual or rushed using go no go guage on brasses,I toss the irregular one out and keep a couple hundred spares.

Peter.
