its cooled off enough for me to get some shed time...found some of this (no idea what it is). thought it looked ok so had a go to see what it would look like polished up...seems to be red one side and blonde the other...i quite like it so will make up a slimline and see what happens...i think...

    First Home-made blank...

So this is my first attempt at a pen using a blank created from off-cuts in my workshop. Various woods layered and glued could be better but happy for a first attempt. Padster

CA Glue to resolve threading issue

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have trawled previous post but have not been able to find an answer. For some reason, the cap thread on a recent kitless pen is lose for the corresponding cut barrel thread. It does not screw on, rather it just slips on. I have CA glued the Cap, tapped...

    First turning for a while

Had a go with some kitchen worktop offcut, Mistral solid surface ( like Corian ). this material is 25mm thick so main box is 3 layers glued together and a separate bit for the lid plus a small bit glued on for the finial. Box is approx 120 mm high x 100 mm dia and I'm pleased with it as the...

    Brown Oak

I’ve not glued my fingers together with CA adhesive for far far too long or for that matter turned a pen so this evening I rectified both these things with some aluminium, black plastic, a piece of Brown Oak & copious amounts of CA glue.

    Back at the lathe

Have turned nothing for many months, until yesterday. My missus says it's like waiting for a bus, nothing for ages then they all arrive together! :rolling: Glued up a batch for later, mostly slimlines but a couple of JR gents and a sedona in that lot as well, also drilled and glued up a few...

    My First Retro Pen

I am still fairly new to Pen Turning and this is my first Retro Pen that I turned from acrylic. I think I should have painted the pen tube white before I glued it in as I can see the tube in various places.

    Worst pen todate

Well this started with my post asking about what wood shouldn't we use for pens. One moderator, Phil, said Balsa wood. So up for a challenge I bought a piece of 12mm X 12mm and cut it to fit a slim line kit that I had. Drilling no problem. First CA glued tube, in, second CA glued tube stuck...

    And the shock of it

I don't want any of you here to have a heart attack but before I get to the stage of posting pictures of some pens, I have today glued up two blanks in preparation to make two of said items so I have forewarned you:funny::funny::funny:

Casting Accident which Turned Out Nice

Hi all, I cast some polyester blanks which turned ugly. I ended up with two halves and made a whole with four colours. While all a bit of an accident I think there is potential in this technique. I sanded the halves, CA glued together, and turned/polished. A few defects .... small crack, tiny...
