    Wenge

I stopped in Yandles last week as I was driving past and picked up a couple pieces of Wenge. I tried turning it but the finish I ended up with was terrible. I re-sanded it and tried everything... but I could not get it looking good at all. Is this a difficult wood to turn and finish ?

Hi from a new Sunderland turner

Hi All, First thank you for the add, looking forward to picking the brains of the more experienced craftsmen - as a total newbie to the art. I've turned 6 or 7 pens plus a stitch ripper, letter opener and a pizza cutter - don't ask) out of various woods including Oak, Walnut, purpleheart, maple...

    Whitewashed Wenge

Loving how this Ares has come out. Wenge turned to shape and sanded, then used a wire brush to open the grain. Sprayed with white paint and then sanded again before adding melamine finish.

    Another Segmented Sierra

Segmented Sierra, Yellowheart and Wenge. Put a new blade on the saw causing ragged edges and possible bleed of the Wenge into the Yellowheart. In hand, under bright light, even withe my glasses on, you don't see it. Damn Camera.

    Wenge pen

Just one this week. A chrome Omega roller ball from TM. Dressed in Wenge (thanks goodtimber.com), Finished in melamine and wax. I found this wood very hard to turn and blunted my tools very quickly. But the lustre in the wood is stunning. Kelvin
