Hi Pen Friends

Off to the London Pen Show on Sunday. Not selling anything, just visiting and possibly spending. I fancy a nice vintage fountain pen but keep changing my mind on which one to go for.

Speaking of which here’s a fountain pen made from a lovely old red celluloid. This is the real deal (cellulose nitrate as oppose to the much more stable cellulose acetate).

It’s several decades old so I’m counting on the fact that it’s well seasoned but you never know. There may be a small amount of movement still. I’ve decided it’s a keeper so I can see how it pans out. I do have a few more rods.

I used black acrylic and sterling silver for the accents.

I’ve also improved the way I shape the ends and the tapers to make it all more consistent from one one to the next.

Anyway if any of you folks are attending LPS I may see you there. I’ll be the good looking Welshman, almost certainly in the bar.

Cheers
Ash

Red and black is always a beautiful match, but that has depth to that....that is one stunning combination. You have got a beautiful shape to it to, the step at the junction too looks spot on, if that was flush or a bigger step it would look wrong....I need to track down some blanks now:praying:
Well done mate!!

Gorgeous. I still haven't found anything that matches real celluloid for visual depth and feel - and you've done it justice.
(Plus the smell of camphor while you're working it is fabulous )

Have fun at the show!
