I am in the market for some lapping fluid so I can sharpen my carbide inserts on my chisels.

I started browsing for some on the old interweb thingy and have once again managed to confuse myself :iknow:

Are all lapping fluids the same? and should I just get the dirt cheap one and make do?

I read somewhere that plain water with a drop or two of dishwashing detergent works just as well as commercial lapping fluid.

I also read that 'personal lubricants' can be used for lapping - - -

+1 for the Trend fluid, on the Scarey sharp I just use plain water with a tiny big of Fairy liquid, and then dry my chisels and oil afterwards :thumbs:

I just buy new inserts as when mine a blunt or chipped a new one is needed as the diamond card will take forever, OOPS you meant on woodturning tools throw the tool away and use proper tools:whistling::funny::funny::funny::funny:

Water and dishwashing fluid, perfect results. One marathon was during and after turning Mammoth Tooth my mate in the US used 20 new 4 way cutters I used one sharpened this way so I vote with my experiences.

I sharpen them dry on an inexpensive four sided diamond block from Lidl. If you want to use a lubricant many seem to use cheap window cleaning liquid from the supermarket.
