Finally had a go at turning my first pen, I believe its splated Beech.

I made a mistake with the cap and the clip was over the pattern so I rotated it and it marked the pen :( Also where the pen meets the nib it feels a bit rough, I cant see anything by looking at it but can feel it. I'm assuming it the CA finish not finished well right on the edge.

Over all though I'm very happy with my first one and I'm looking forward to the next ones I do :)

OK, you're over the hill. You learn by your errors and cock-ups and it will only get better with practice. Well done!

Nice shape and a good effort for your first pen - The ridge could be caused by slightly underturning the nib end but it's hard to see in the photo.

There isn't much wrong with that. Just a tip I assemble my pens on a sheet of thin ply and on the bottom right I have stuck a small piece of 400grit sandpaper only 1" square but stuck flat so as I assemble I just give the finished pen cases a quick swipe in the vertical position and it knocks off the burring you can get from the CA finish. (just make sure you look where you swipe because if you go on autopilot it doesn't arf burn the fingers!!:sob:)

A great first pen. what I like is you know it's not perfect & you know what's wrong so you can make your next pens to a better standard. Great start.

I only half press the clip at first cause sometimes there is a better position if you full press and relocate the clip slip a piece of cardboard under the ball of the clip no more worries. Like your first pen mate.
