How would you change the spacing? Closer or further apart. I like the looks of the two toned bands. It gives a little separation. Nice first effort.

Terry, I'm thinking closer, to center the darker circle into the lighter one. The two tone was an accident!
The blank is set at 40deg. and ready to cut about 1/8'' below the center of the blank.
I have one 1/4'' wood spacer between the blank and the stop.
Make the first knot cutting and glueing veneer on the four sides.
Take the spacer out, which will move the blank down 1/4'' and do the next knot.
Maybe a 3/16'' spacer would be better.
And, alternate light and dark veneer on each knot?
I hope all this makes sense.
