I've made six pens in total. These first three were for my children. Slimline and from zibrano and bubinga.
The goblet was a gift for the mother in law. Made from sweet chestnut.
The tea light holder is made from spalted beech.

They're not the best as I've only been turning a very short while and still very green and wet behind the ears.

Wood turning is like therapy to me. I suffer with a severe chronic disease and can only stand for short periods before I'm in an awful lot of pain.

When I'm at the lathe I can forget all my stresses and struggles and just get drawn into the piece ( not literally as that really wouldn't be good! ) It's amazing to watch a rough chunk of timber become a thing of beauty.

They are really excellent Ruth, considering you haven't been doing long you are a quick learner.

Well done, keep it up.

Look forward to seeing more of your work.

It's very nice stuff:thumbs: get yourself a suitable stool for sitting while turning, if you haven't already.

excellent Ruth, you sound a bit like you are unsure of your results? they are great. I love the spalted beech one, I have a soft spot for that, (some wood hardener helps!) Is it not possible to arrange to sit while you are at your lathe? Some folk do, even from a wheel chair. I am in the same boat, can only stand for a wee while, damned annoying eh? Then again I am older than your dad. So I was fit when young. So I keep telling myself. Never tried the captive rings. Did twice carve basket work onto the grip and stock of air rifles, that looked very good. Made a platter with ripple sycamore with maple leaves carved round the rim, that sold.

Some folks take to turning and some never get the hang of it. You are a natural. The pens are nice. The goblet is very well proportioned and the tea light is very appealing. Glad you found us. Looking forward to more of your work.

Some great work Ruth. To me the tea light holder would have looked better if it was smaller but that's just a personal thing. The workmanship is excellent.

Join the club Ruth, I think we all feel like that.
You've turned some really nice pieces there so you're doing something right. What you'll learn is that you will be your own worst critic. Enjoy your turning.
