I'm very new to making pens (six in total) and this is my first attempt at turning a fountain pen for my dads 70th. It's made with African rose wood. I think I'll use a lighter wood next time.

I know it's not the best and my camera skills need improving. But practice makes perfect and I'm thoroughly enjoying the practice.

Ruth.

Ruth that is a very nice pen, I am sure your Dad will love it. I think dark woods often suit a fountain pen, it gives them a sort of elegance.

Hi Ruth, well you are ahead of me, I have not tried making a fountain pen as yet, only made about two dozen slimline ones. But have made two serpentine ones and one and a half (not finished yet) segmented ones. I used to turn platters and bowls, make walking sticks and crooks, engrave glass, and do some oil and watercolour painting. So am new to penmaking also. I think the dark wood on your fountain pen looks right with the gold metal work. Nice pen. Rose wood is beautiful anyway.
