I got to the show at 0850 Friday, walked in without being asked to pay (they probably thought I was one of the stallholders), spent 20 minutes looking around, and was back in the car by 0930. This included having a cup of coffee. Very disappointing! The "big" names were all represented but no bargains, that I could see. I also saw very little in the way of pen kits and blanks. Those I did see I could have bought cheaper in the stores! Likewise with the bowl blanks. If I'd had to pay the £8.00 entrance fee I would have been well pissed off!

Hello, Vic - yes, some of the stalls were set up to have demos. I was too early for any of that to have started yet. By the way - when there's a big show at Detling there is no right turn at the top of Detling hill, which would take you to the showground. However, this morning no such restriction was being applied. If there is no right turn it will mean driving up as far as the M20 roundabout, then travelling back in the opposite direction. It's a right pain, as it will add ten minutes to the journey. (Your folks will know what I'm talking about.) Enjoy the show, matey!

Thanks for that Bob, I have found with many of these shows a quick tour in 10 to 20 minutes, I have seen all I want and wasted my time and money going.
I did consider going to this just to meet the gang with no interest in the show but can't be arsed with the drive there and back.
I thought I had Family in Sandwich and Herne Bay to visit but it seems they are all dead and buried according to my sister who regularly sponged off them.
I could have got the Maidstone Premier Inn for £58 when I looked during the week and was tempted but am now glad I never.
Enjoy the show all those who go, I'll spend the hotel and diesel money on a few beers instead, I am going out with ex Fujitsu colleagues tonight for goodly few and Ruby init?

Hi, Brian,
I think you made the right decision. The show is all inside one large warehouse-type building, with, I suppose, about thirty stalls. Trouble is, most of these are the well-known suppliers, and we already know what they sell. I would have preferred to have seen less well-known exhibitors with some fresh stuff. I did see a second-hand tool stall but his prices were a bit steep. No point in buying a s/h chisel when, for another Fiver, you can get a new one! Enjoy your night out!
Steve - the stalls were out early - and the demos will obviously start once the crowds arrive.

I was there from 10:00am until 2:00pm but then I can chat. Even though there are mainly the top sellers I found that the demonstrations were good and willing to talk, I managed to tell a few of the penturners that did not know about us here to come and visit us.

I've just finished and enjoyed myself. Had a go on the traditional foot lathe. Watched tony Wilson I think demos and saw tony hand ford first turn a magnificent piece of field maple. Got my money's worth from the demos tbh.

No super bargains. But nice to compare tools and meet a new local supplier Oliver's woodturning.

Also nice to feel like a youngest.

The bargin bucket bins were rammed and someone was going to do a hip in.

Not many there, Derek - what time did you visit?

Bob.

it was a bit thin on the ground on the public side compared to last year. I was there as per my last post. Shame I missed you.

Did anyone spot our Brodies blanks on Oliver,s stand I took a look while I was talking to Ed

Looks like the same crew as at Harrogate mainly.

Even the same stands eg Ashley Isles.

Glad the demo's were useful for some though, seems like the days of a proper bargain are few and far between. But if Manufacturers are there, they can't afford to undercut the dealers / retailers so it kind of kills it.

Bit like the Dive Show is now for scuba enthusiasts, bloody dear day out and no bargains, good talks though.
