The last couple of days I have been busy in the shed preparing wood and printing patterns for some more bandsawn boxes most patterns I have taken from a book "Building Beautiful Boxes by Lois Keener Ventura" and also My dear old mum in her 90's says can I make a Christmas present for her friend but will leave it up to me. At least one thing I know about her friend is she is quite religious so I thought a cross but with a difference I have used one of Steve goods patterns and if you look in the centre I have drawn a couple of circles one for the clock and the other for a boarder

Will take some more photo's as I go. This is where I am at up until tonight

I look forward to seeing the results Derek, I'm still trying to get to grips with the scrollsaw under Neil H's guidance.

They look good Derek. Are you using a bandsaw or a scroll saw for your cuts ???

The boxes will be cut on the bandsaw and the outside of the cross as well. All the inside cuts for the cross will be done on the scroll saw it is only 5/8" thick

I look forward to seeing the results, which I am sure will be as stunning as the last one, I particularly like the cross, very smart.

Looking good. Would love to see a video of these or others being made

Maybe not a video but I will try and photograph all the steps. The nearest I got to a video was these six which are really only slide shows. I apologise for some of the music

Hopefully the addition of a clock will not spoil it. I have given it a name of "Time to pray" OK maybe not the best but open to suggestions

A little more done today Cut out all the outside profiles on the bandsaw. You will notice that on the cross I cut into the internal corners after cutting the bulk away this helps especially with long runs to release the waste without having to back out a long or possibly a cut that has many turns.
Also when you have a long cut to do around a shape I normally make the cut following the line then where I want to cut off the waste I will back up by 1/2" to 1" then cut out to the edge it makes it easier to restart cutting again. second picture

Now to start cutting the backs of the boxes and scrolling out the cross which I will photograph later when I have got to that stage.

Last picture of them all with the waste cut away
