hi All

This is my entry for next weeks club competition, turned from 1 of 4 bowling balls that I picked up at a car boot. Handle is a bit of beech that I had lying around, has a lovely balanced weight to it, after the comp it's going to e-bay.
Comments and critiques always welcome.

Well I think it's fabulous !

It looks balanced just from the photo's, should feel good in the hand I would guess.

Finish looks to be spot on as well to me.

Good luck in the comp.

Hi Phil Hi Peter,

Thanks for the comments, I finished up to 1500, then finished with yellow and white nyweb, good few minutes on the Beall system, final coat is just carnuba but I think on the day of the comp I'll put some Renaissance wax on the lambs wool pad and really bring the shine up.
Regards
Kevin

Hi All
Grump, yes it's LV, not so much turned, more a war of attrition with a scraper, but it came out OK, I pocked all 4 bowls up for £25 at the car boot, bit of a bargain actually, got feelers out for a few more sets, could be happy turning a few more of these.
I've got 2 left to do but I'm just waiting for a reasonably priced camcorder to come my way and I'll do it as a YouTube tutorial. For some reason my mobile camera diesn't store video in a format that Windows Movie Maker recognises.

Kevin

That is fantastic and what a lovely shine. Hopefully you'll not only win the comp but get what its worth on Ebay.

Very good job Kevin! Beautiful bit of turning and recycling. Looks like a winner to me. But it's got a lovely weight to it :thumbs:

Kevin a couple of options spring to mind:
1/ Chatteris ain't a million miles away, I could come over and video you dong the business and stick up for the peeps init?
2/ You could send the video to me in whatever format you have and I can pervert it for you.
You had a good deal with the bowls you must have known what you where looking for and had the idea in your head surely?
LV is a bugger init?

That is a first class bit of turning and a great finish it would seem a shame to use it and ruin that finish

Hi All

Thanks , it weighs 1 lb 10 1/4 oz i9n old money, I'm reasonably well built and it feels just right to me, but I have no idea what a carver would think, I have a memory of reading about mallets some time ago, the writer/author was saying that it should just sort of roll back and forward with only the wrist joint really moving, this mallet does just that so I'm happy.

I'm loving the affirmation, however I've worked psychiatric hospitals and prisons for more than 30 years so I can take a word or two of criticism.....honestly....if there's none I'm happy as well.

Regards
Kevin

Those of you who are more observant may have noticed I haven't posted a pen as yet, I will when I'm happy with what I produce!!! Kevin

Hi Grump

That's a very kind offer, I want the camcorder because I have challenged my self to have a YooToob channel be the end of the year, I'll try the Mrs camera and her phone see if it's Microsoft and Samsung being siy buggers by not making them compatible.

Regards
Kevin
