    Hampshire Elm

Another English Elm twist pen. I just love the grain and deep finish on this pen but sadly I have very little elm left.

    Tried to do a bowl

I have attempted to do a bowl over these last few days, it is the first thing I have turned with zero supervision. I think I have messed up the finish as to me it looks too dark, also when taking the nipple off I did not have enough padding on the inside as have a line near the top where the...

    Stained glass window

Mark James posted a photograph of a similar looking pen about 3 years ago on IAP forum which I was most impressed with and always wanted to attempt something like it. I've already told him that I would be copying his plan. This was also my first attempt at a Gluboost finish.

    Difference Between Pen Blank Materials

Hi Everyone Finally ready to start getting into the pen-making a bit more fully and I thought I'd better get an idea of the pros and cons of the various blank materials. I've got plenty of wood so can always try a variety of different species without worrying about wrecking them. So, grateful...

    Wenge

I stopped in Yandles last week as I was driving past and picked up a couple pieces of Wenge. I tried turning it but the finish I ended up with was terrible. I re-sanded it and tried everything... but I could not get it looking good at all. Is this a difficult wood to turn and finish ?

    so and CA or not

As the title suggests I'm in two minds of what to do. lets start at the beginning I have what I believe is oak bur that I started to turn with the vision of mixing some colour into some two part epoxy to fill in the gaps in the wood. BUT after turning to within mm's of the bushings I only...

A finish for London Plane Burr

    Laser engraving query

Hi, We've just invested in a little laser engraver. My query is, when in the pen-making process is it best to do the engraving? Would the finish be spoilt by the heat? Thanks in advance Margo

    Maple rolling pin.

Nothing too exciting, just a Maple rolling pin birthday gift. About 21"/530mm long, 2 1/2"/63mm in diameter with a mineral oil finish. It did make me wish for a longer tool rest. Pete

    Tried using melamine

Had to do 20 sets of razor, stands and brushes for a customer. My normal process would have taken a week of of applying and drying. Got some Chestnut melamine lacquer. Price not that bad compared to the other stuff available here. Only one outlet has in stock though. All pieces were turned...
