    Started to convert logs

Just started to prepare the last lot of logs that I received but due to other things needing to be made I could not do them before now. Should get some nice pieces out of these pieces. They are 3 -4" thick and the one 2 1/2" thick remember the slabs are 18" so gives an idea of the width of them...

    Sorting out the wood store!

Finally got to sort out the drying shed. Stuff gets put in stick and not touching, but once it loses enough moisture it can be stacked up making more room for more wood. Had a load of Silver Birch and Sycamore hogging the shelves which has now been moved. Silver Birch has either been turned or...

    Phase One

Was going to cut this piece up to give away for Marquetry. Gave it a hurry up on the Big Boy metre Sander for a minute. The log it came from was about four hundred yrs old. White ants had eaten out a pipe all through. During the week I picked up four more logs of this beautiful rare timber...

    Look what I found

Look what I found hidden in some logs. I have just finished cutting up the logs into squares and put them through my thicknesser to get them nice and flat as the chainsaw does not always cut square. I will now cut them on the bandsaw into rounds where needed, could not do them today as the blade...

Trusted supplier of logs to turn?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a good supplier of kiln or air dried logs between say 10-50 cm diameter? My purchases so far have been a hit and miss from ebay and most bought are that badly split they are firewood, not wax sealed end grain or seasoned right.

    Yew Omega

Was lucky enough to get stack of well seasoned mixed logs from a local historic estate. They have been in a barn for over 6 years apart from some cherry which is now settled into a new home drying nicely. Its hard work cutting logs with just a hand saw, but I like trying different cuts...
