    Darkness

Bit of a risk as I think Wenge is a difficult wood (Colour wise) to look good on pens and the pen choice is also something that needs to be looked at with this wood. I think I have done well with it but I am happy to hear your views.

    Embarrassed

Very nearly did not post this but then thought I don't really mind being laughed at and ridiculed by my peers. You may remember a couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of a shock absorber pen I had made that had split open when I pressed it together...

    Lots of Firsts

Had a lot of firsts today culminating in my first blank break. I was making a shock absorber pen using callipers as I did not have any bushes for it. All was going well until I put the very last thing together, the bit that the keyring goes on. It fitted great and I was really pleased how it...

    Burr Oak + 1

    Stock Gaylard Oak Fair

I went there yesterday and it was a good day out with plenty of wood related stuff to look at. I was particularly impressed with many of the Pen makers. The last two I looked at chose to make pens using only native hardwoods and the looked very good. Of particular interest were the style and...

    Eye protector

Despite wearing goggles I still wasn’t keen on the bits of acrylic slapping my cheeks. Only seems to happen from the square to rounded off section then settles down. Looked at the ones online and seemed expensive so good old f bay and an online Perspex supplier slapped this on the top today...

    Bullet twist pen

Today’s effort. Thank you all for your ‘ca’ advise. Think I’m slowly getting the nice polished looked.

1st wood pens in a while

Always seem to be playing with Acrylics recently so made a change to turn some wood. I have no idea what wood it is though, I have some odd blanks in my cupboard and two of them looked really nice so turned them and this is the end result :thinks:

Finished a Steampunk pen ages ago and im still not happy with it (one last try)

I ordered a Steampunk pen kit from Axminster and it arrived in good time and looked lovely. I took the pre scuffed tube and a lovely piece of Wenge and glued it in nicely with gorilla glue. Got into the shop today and mounted it on to the mandrel and turned it down to the bushings sanded and...

I need a pink Pen blank

Does anyone know of any pink based pen blanks. I have been asked to make a pen and I don't have any home made ones and it is now too cold for me to cast any. I am not looking for a solid pink blank, but one with interest it could have small amounts of other colour. I have looked at Axminster and...

    Sketch pencil

This is one of Jim's mixed material blanks. Shame on me for forgetting to color the blank. It would have looked a lot better.

    An Early Christmas Prezzie

I got a nice parcel in the post today from my mate GeordieB. 5 lovely Black Locust Burr Blanks. I had to turn one straight away to see what they looked like. This is an Elegant Beauty Australiana. I will be sending the pen up to Bill Mooney for Blind Veterans from Geordie and Me.
