    BLACK PALM from Africa.

I had a mate who imported from his village in Africa ladles and various timbers, this one from a large ladle stem. Difficult to turn because palm timber is made up of roots. Like this contrast with the sap.:thumbs:

    Palm Timber Issues

I've been absent, but still poking in the shop at times. These are my current struggles with using Palm as end caps. Previously they turned fine, recently have given me fits. I did get the five I needed done, then switched the Palm for the middle section and had an easier time. With the ends...

    Another Black Palm

Just to add to the interest around Black Palm I made this one - with X cut Black Palm a couple of weeks ago. I chose the wood/grain to particularly match with this Antique Bronze 'Art Deco' style kit - which I think works quite nicely. Tony

    Black Palm Pens

The recent thread on the weird Black Palm has prompted me to post these two I made recently. Beaufort Sirocco in Brushed Pewter, really nice plating like it a lot. TM Kappa I think really goes well with the Palm. Peter

    Black Palm Scales

Black Palm Scales on Maple by Kenneth Wines that I turned and finished with 6 coats of MINWAX Clear Satin Polyurethane using my Dipping Method to get that wood feel. I find using a Gloss finish on wood makes it look and feel too much like the plastic look that you get with a CA finish. Dressed...

    Black Palm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a go with some Black Palm today!!!! I made sure all the tools required were sharp, but this is a stubborn fibrous wood!! I'm posting this pen because I had to overcome many issues and in the end, I have a pen I'm fairly happy with, even if it is just for a family member rather than for...

Art déco pen, black palm and bone

Hi everybody, Here is the last pen from my workshop, the foreman just brought it to my office this morning. Quite happy with what he manages to get from the labourers' hands. The kit used to be a Jr. Gent, he told me. Bright CA finish. The pen is inspired by shapes and materials used in the...

    Sierra with palm wood

I'd forgotten what a bugger palm wood was to turn. I lost the first one and salvaged this by using a lot of ca and aluminium fines.

    Black Palm Tree

I used to know an African guy at a weekend market. From a Village near him in Africa the people made goods that he purchased then resold at his weekend stall. Amongst them were wooden spoons (largish). I used to buy them and turn the handles. They were stringy and tough made up of tubes, I put...
