    Everything from a scrapbin.

Every now and again I get to rummage through the scrap bin of a luthier friend. The timber comes from the scrap after cutting out guitar necks, also there is pickguard and a bit of purfling. I had to buy the kit! A Knurl GT.

    Oak bowl with finial lid

Fully hollowed out to 5mm (ish). This Oak blank had been kicking about for ages so I thought I had better use it and make some space. The finial is Maple and the lid is some bit of scrap. I think it's all still moving a little but hopefully will settle down. Dare not take any more of the lid...

Thought I would try something different

Last week's efforts. Took some time to do this as I was finding my way as not done much of these designs. The lid is Walnut, the cup I am not too sure of but could be Ash and the finial is from a scrap piece of Oak What I do like about this is that the lid fits properly. Not too tight...

    Lignum vitae

This timber has been listed on the Cities restricted list like many timbers treated this way these days.It turns, belieing its reputation as the heaviest and hardest of timbers. My first pen of Lignum was a scrap from a Ships bearing supporting the drive shaft after forty years. Peter.

    Gutted or what!

The transport mechanism got stuck, just could not save it. Drilled out the brass tube with a 6mm drill. Not sure if a another mechanism will fit or not. All day working on that body and I was quet pleased with it. It was a Beech and Iroko laminate out of the scrap box. Still, never mind; try...

    Jamb Chucks

I've only just started turning in last month-looking at youtube vids it talks about using a piece of scrap timber to make a jamb chuck. Where does this 'scrap wood' come from ? :-) There seems to be an assumption that there's timber scattered all over the place. Can you get offcuts from local...
