    Spindle Turning

I've been asked to supply a few things for a wedding fayre, so gonna try a few cake slices, bottle openers/stoppers as well as a few sets of pens. What would be an ideal size of blank to use for the utensils? Length will obviously depend on what the tool is but what about thickness. Don't wanna...

    Minimum wall thickness of wood?

The design of the pen I'm working on uses no finials or adornments, closed tapered ends, cigar like. If I'd had more time / had put more thought on how to do it, I'd probably have not used the brass tubes, but too late to change that now as I've bought the kit, so... The brass tubes will...

    Yew Duck.

A simple pattern. The Yew is stunning as always. Great wood to cut or turn. As I got nearer the 6mm thickness the piece of wood split into a few parts as it was pretty gnarly. Scrollsaw Yew Duck. - YouTube

    Leather Sierra Pens

Great minds think alike Johnny5! I pinched some of Kelvin's Sierra pen kits to practice on, but I didn't quite get my calculations right on the thickness :thinks: Next time I'll experiment with skiving down to the correct thickness at the ends so it meet the components better, I...

First attempt at a serpantine blank / pen

Probably moving a bit fast as i only got my lathe on wed evening, but I did have a bandsaw, so had to have a play with it managed to cut some veneers out of pine, not perfect but close enough for a try, i used the bandsaw for cutting the blanks, but think i will get the scroll saw sorted before...

    Pen blank thickness

Can you guys and gals please tell me the minimum thickness for a slimline blank, as I have a teak sunlounger that is going to be pen blanks but the spars ar only 14.5 mm thick, if that is to thin its no probs as i will use the spars for laminate pens, or even have them made into pen boxes, the...

    Lightweight!

After making so many fruit bowls recently, I fancied a change. This Horse Chestnut bowl is 10" x 3 1/4" and weighs just under 5 Ounces (141g). Wall thickness is about 1/8" (3mm) and it flexes when you pick it up! Finish is Danish Oil.

    Another Kitless

2nd kitless pen, this time in Wenge with white mother of pearl acylic. This was a challenge as the wall thickness on the cap is very thin.

    Perspex

Has anyone turned perspective rod? I would like to mock up a kitless in coloured translucent perspex (which I believe is basically acrylic) so I can clearly see how much wall thickness and space I have internally. Will this turn / thread well?

    Bowl done a wobbly

I was turning a piece of Rowan that has a fair amount of rot in it, it also has some small cracks as well. I 'treated' the rot and cracks to three sessions of CA and left it to go off. While it was mounted on the chuck screw and only the outside finished, it ran true. I swapped it round and held...

    Bullet key chain

Didn't want to steal Jim's thread. I buy spectra ply in 1x10x35 panel. For pen blanks I rip them 3/4 square. The strip left over I thickness sand to use for Celtic Knot blanks. This happens to be the pink and blue.
