    My Old Colliery

Done a few of these Zeta Pens over the last few weeks as requested by some of my old Mining Colleagues. The Picture in the Pen is of Lea Hall Colliery. Over 2500 were employed at the colliery until it was closed in 1991. Some great and sad memories whilst working here.

    The UK returns to normal!

Well, the BBC for whom I used to have the greatest respect for as the great broadcasting institution that it used to be, are trying to send us all into a post covid vegetative state of moronic depression, blaming everyone else for the reason that they are where they are! Fortunately not everyone...

    Translucent blanks

Hi all, Well this one's come around again... I paint the inside of my blanks when they may become translucent. I also try to use a colour closest to the blank, unless I want to lighten or darken it slightly. I don't mix anything with the glue as it's inside the hole which is painted for which I...

Not New but wanted to say Hello

It has been quite awhile since I have been here. I was flipping through some of my bookmarked sites and this one came up and thought I would stop by and see some old names. Good to see some of the projects too. Just wanted to say hello and yes I am still making pens and also scrollsawing...

Hi all from sunny south east England

Hi All, Been turning pens since a got a small wood lathe in October and really enjoying it. Had a general wood working interest for a number of years so was pretty much kitted out before I got the lathe. Working for the NHS I have found it relaxing to come home and transform a square of wood...

    Small Bullet pen!

With apologies to Mark who 1) knows about shooting and 2) knows about making pens... I've cobbled this together: It's a Winchester 243 (doesn't mean a lot to me I'm afraid) And as I've only made kits before, I'm quietly quite proud of myself in making it into an actual working pen...

    Pen boxes

After seeing Pierre's bandsaw box I thought that I would post these boxes that I'm working on. I have been giving pens to people on the front line fighting the dreaded virus and wanted a little handmade box to present the pens in. A doctor friend is working 88 hours a week currently and will...

    Another Newbie!

Although I’m new to the forum I’ve been turning pens on a casual basis since last year. I’ve been working with wood for years and scratch build our home furniture and spend many hours wood turning in general. I’m fortunate to have good power tools in my “man cave” which is my second home now...

What have you all been up to

Even if you have only turned part of something or completed it what have you been up to in the shed. For me working on the next project and today managed to turn these two pieces to fit in another larger piece which I am still working on and having fun doing so. The colours of the turning are...

    Burl Oak bits pen

Hi all, I bought a number of small burl Oak off cuts from Ebay. A piece is shown in the picture. Managed to make a slim line pen out of them. This pen did fight me all of the way though which, of course, some do. The cracks were the main problem and needed constant filling. I would have...

    alternative to turning

OK so I got into working with wood a bit by accident, working as a signmaker I bought an old spares or repair CNC knowing that I would be able to rebuild it with my engineering experience. The idea was to produce flat cut letters & sign trays & possibly offer a trade service for those. BUT then...

    Exhibit next week...

I have posted a couple of pens over the past two weeks that included Celtic knots in one form or another - both are slated for presentation of Modern Celtic Art that opens next week. In this very rural area in Upstate New York, there is a pocket of full and part-time working artists who work in...
