Polyester and polystyrene are related to each other in that they are both thermo plastics but the molecular structure of the monomers differ.
In the diagrams you will see they are related by family (plastics) with a gender and hierarchy but one runs lateral to the other giving it more flexibility.
To give an example a polyester tow rope will stretch 1.5 times its length before snapping, Now try stretching a ceiling tile or a snackwagon cup.

Don't trust the atoms, they make everything up.
