Found a quick pic I took of a bowl Richard Raffan gave me the significance is enhanced for me as there is no greater exponent of timber and preserving natural colour than this man, he also is heavily influenced by pottery nin shapes, design, texture etc in this bowl he recreated some of these the hundreds of intricate lines he cut were emphasised by gold leaf the inside a matte black the rim well you can see it for yourself Jim I show it to you as what can be done to acheive a purpose this bowl is thin as turned greenish shaped by drying as well. Now my endevour to say do whatever you like to plain timber and enjoy it never live regretting not doing something different because of tradition, mores etc.

Kind regards Peter.

My tuppence worth......... it depends on the wood & shape of the piece.

One of my favourite pieces made so far had a black painted rim but whilst the paint was still wet it was rubbed off so that the grain could still be seen.
I've tried jo sonjas stains, don't like them much. Spirit stains are ok too.

I got an airbrush for Christmas (no, not the one just gone, the one before) but it's still in the box. Just haven't had the time to experiment or somewhere dust free that I can do it but I will because I want to & don't give a gnats nut what anyone else thinks :funny::funny::funny:

We all lather our creations in chemicals, whether it's sealer, varnish, CA, stains or paint - each individual should be allowed to do what they want without the purists calling out for them to be hung drawn & quartered just because they don't like it.
If it enhances the piece made then it's right to do.
