This timber excites above many for its variations from Reds to Oranges,Sapwood etc to achieve across the grain is rare because white ants in the Nth of Australia eat out the centre. It is a 4 metre high Bush covered in thorns. Snakes live in the colonies of these thick bushes.Harvesting means be extremely careful not to be torn or bitten. I think thisis oneof the thickest pens I make to capture some sapwood etc.

The Australian Indigenous Aborigines love this Bush, in season it bears fruit that is called a Bush Plum. Nearly 40 yrs ago I first saw some turned Items made from Conkerberry. The memory lingered and I have hunted it down happily ever since. Wilma tells me I made a mans pen so I achieved my design.:goesred:

Peter.

Looks great.

Conkerberry .... good that be a Variation of Horse Chesnut ?

No. This Pen Timber is Carissa Spinarum family Apocynaceae....Horse Chestnut is Aesculis hippocastinum of the Sapindacae family ..therefore not related mate.

Lovely wood and the colour variation WOW!
Right kit for a chunky man pen imho.
Going to have to look up the word conker now because us Brits think of conkers coming from chestnut trees.
