Spose I should re-introduce myself having had such a long break from the forum, (forgotten how to use it)
It's only the sad news about Woody that brought me back to look in.
Since being a regular here I have been beaten up and left for dead, lost my memory (patchy returned), forced retirement, up-sized from 3 sheds to 5 sheds, downsized to 1 shed.
Fell out with eBay, PayPal, Microsoft and many others who won't acknowledge my terms and conditions, wrote my own operating system based on Unix without all the bloat.
Moved house to gods waiting room (1 bed bungalow for assisted living) got rid of almost everything and started again.
In the process of moving into yet a smaller shed where I can sit and play with lasers, 3D printers and all manner of small toys.
Done a bit of stick making, whittling, carving, model making, engraving, welding, car maintenance, fencing, painting and decorating, sign writing, drinking, eating, sleeping, loft insulation all the normal things a pensioner gets roped into for their lazy or too busy offspring.

I have had a brief flick through the pages here and see nothing changes in fact it's really quiet init? Bring back debate, lets have some healthy discussion, arguments etc.

To kick it off here's what I think.
1/ Post Office Scandal.
Stop pouring millions of pounds sterling of our money into public inquiries. Start criminal proceedings and jail the perpetrators, seize their funds persecute them to suicide like they have done. Make them pay the compensation owed with out any further delay.

2/ Illegal immigration.
Don't stop them from coming into the country, don't want to see any more deaths in the channel or needless stress of a dangerous crossing? Want to save millions of pounds sterling in accommodating these people?
A simple solution is to stop them from leaving France, make the French authorities responsible for their borders. Put a couple of frigates on patrol to enforce the rules.

3/Windrush.
You know what needs to be done, stop pussyfooting around and get on with doing it.

Strikes.
Why are only the higher paid professions are striking? Shelf stackers, carers, cleaners etc. All the lower paid sector with invisible thankless jobs, down tools and show who really runs this country.

Wotchya Mark. How's things with you? From what I can gather you have lost the job at the school and set up your own workshop. Am I right? Is it working out for you?
I have been setting up a small workshop in a small shed (as above), a friend gave me some ally profile offcuts and I am in the process of building a mini lathe with them. I still have a drawer full of old kits that I can play with and a box half full of your shell cases. Watch this space lol.

Hey up @Grump, “tadlow turner” and many other names I don’t think is right to use in here.😁

It’s like putting an old pair of slippers on when you come back here, yes I’m still here however in a reduced timeframe these days.

I knew you had a few issues as caught up with Grandad a few times and chatted over a coffee and a bit of man glitter, he never said what they were just said you were going through a rough time.

I think the last time we spoke you were playing at being a wine delivery driver ! 😁 but then it could have been a wining delivery driver 🤣

Anyway Dad, you do realise that I have to agree and can’t disagree with any of your points.
Now that is amazing “init !”

Enjoy your time back here and keep up the banter and regularly throw your dummies out of your pram to become the Grump we are used too, unless of course you have mellowed like a fine wine in your dotage !

Got to go and find my pink blanks again now you are back, was always nice to see your response.

Wotchya @silver if I can't stir up a good bull n cow my time here will be wasted init?
The wine delivery job lasted about 3 weeks, the company refused to spend money on their van and I refused to drive it with bald tyres and expired MOT.
My next job wasn't much better, I trained as an enablement officer. Sounded very interesting helping people returning home from hospital and finding ways to keep them living independently. Started very well, part time job 5 hours a day over a 3 day week 5 clients per day. Honeymoon period finished and they expected 20 calls per day in how ever many hours it took to complete them. Got attacked by a skitzo looney when leaving his premises and I only know what I have been told about what happened to me.
Spent the next 2 years on sick benefits until retirement.
I visit the Facebook groups periodically and see the odd comment from a familiar name, sometimes gives me a giggle.
Think I might do a bit spinning this year and give a load of pens away when i get the mini lathe built, don't got room for anything big enuff to serious work.

Pink blanks???????????????

Hiya Brain marra. Great to hear you're still making waves, won't get an argument from me though 'cos I remember some of those from the past.

By co-incidence I thought about you just last week when I cut myself with tht knife you made for me, still as sharp as ever.

Wotchya Keith. All in the past mate, picked myself up dusted off and started over again. Enjoying retirement these days. Gave the van away the day I got my bus pass, that saved a bucket load of dosh in itself. I just play all day now. The viper feeds me 3 meals a day so I am fatter than ever, she loves her cooking and I like eating lol. I go out boozing with a neighbour, ex fleet air arm pilot, a very interesting intelligent man with a great sense of humour. Short arms and deep pockets though so I buy two to his one but that's OK. He entertains me with his tales. Hope you are keeping well?

As a newbie I haven't had the pleasure, but from reading the other posts probably won't be to long.I took early retirement by a year in 2009, but only took up woodturning approx two years ago and the last turning I done was on a metal lathe at school. So got my lathe Christmas 2023 and got set up in my shed in August 2024. So far only have turned pens....

Keeping good Brian. Packed in work on 2016 and now tinker about sailing model yachts, air rifle shooting and just generally enjoying life. Not touched the lathe for ages though, I can’t seem to generate the enthusiasm for it plus the arthritis is getting bad so I can’t stand for too long.

Welcome back @Grump - it's been a while. The good news is we don't see many Polaris kits here any more
I probably have the odd Polaris kit in my Plastic storage bin. I have a reasonably large collection of kits that nobody else wanted to take from me.
I'll wade through it when the weather warms up and see what is there.

Agree with you but they won't do that as the "Top Brass" will never be prosecuted, its the same as all scandals involving the "Elite" they will just keep waiting it out until they are all dead and its forgotten about (again).

The French don't want that, they WANT them to cross the channel out of France, NOT there problem any more.
The French navy are escorting the boats to English waters and the RNLI / Coast Guard and Navy are waiting to take them, what I don't understand is why UK Councils are falling over themselves to help the "Illegals" but not our own people.....

3/Windrush.
You know what needs to be done, stop pussyfooting around and get on with doing it.
Again, another government tactic as they are now all in there 80s & 90s wait long enough and there wont be anyone to pay compensation to......

Strikes.
Why are only the higher paid professions are striking? Shelf stackers, carers, cleaners etc. All the lower paid sector with invisible thankless jobs, down tools and show who really runs this country.
You will find that the people that work in retail, cleaners, and the majority of low paid workers are fairly young and don't want to get involved, they are working for such a low wage that if they take time off or loose pay, they can not pay the bills (that just keep going up) it is a vicious circle that benefits those in power, Companies are not interested in the staff, investors and owners, we can get into a discussion about the likes of Elon Musk, and the Multi Billionaire's of this world that make more money in a day than I could make in a year.
So called "Pop Stars" that rake in millions but totally ignore the people that put them where they are (the fans).
We have a society that honours and looks up to the "Rich & Famous" and ignores those that need help and support....
The low paid will not go on strike as they simply can not afford to loose what little they have....

I have a question for you Brian....

I am ex-forces, my two sons are in the Royal Tank Regiment and they both tell me about the cost cutting and lack of equipment, statistics say we have over 300 Challenger 2 tanks available, what those stats don't say is that only 30 to 40 are actually "Working Tanks" most are missing parts (robbed to repair others), most are awaiting parts but they can not order any as they don't have the funds due to cut backs...
So HOW can this bloody useless government give 2.4 Billion £s to Ukraine!!!!!

By the way... Welcome Back
