Haven't turned a pen since I demolished five serpentine blanks so had a go at turning a bowl
I believe the wood is sycamore (could be wrong though)

Nice bowl, if you have cole jaws you can use them to get to the bottom or a jamb chuck and very light cuts.

Nice first bowl. To renove the tenon make a jam chuck and bring the tailstock up to the tenon to hold it in place, make sure it is centred. Gently turn away as much of the tenon as possible and then remove the rest by hand. For future reference when you turn the tenon put a small dimple in the centre of it so when you come to reverse the bowl you have the centre already marked for the tailstock to go into.

Thanks lads. Have started to make a Longworth chuck which may take some time as I'm using a scroll saw. By the way the scroll saw is a first as well and I'm finding it very slow work, trouble feeding blade through and refitting.:sob::sob::sob:

Straining at a gnat using a scroll saw to make a Longworth chuck mate. When you do be very careful with the orientation of fixing bolts etc they become a spinning nightmare to be used very carefully.

Peter.
