With being self employed gardeners our liability insurance is coming up for renewal, which made me start wondering about liability insurance with us making & selling pens & accociated gear like these moulds & pen blanks etc.

If you sell pens that you turn & espessialy if you have stalls at craft fares etc do you have Liability insurance?

The direct benefit over here of belonging to a Wood Group is the overall cover as a member is great and the umbrella group in Victoria gives excellent rates of separate insurance.

Thing to note is at meetings you must sign an attendance book and for private sales accurate records of commence and return times.

In the past this may be on record Uk solutions made etc. Better to be sure than sorry.

Thinking about your new vacuum chambers I would think product liability would be important.

I don't think I'll be going down the commercial route with the vacuum chambers, it's just not going to be worth it with all the costs involved, and like you point out the liability side of things it's just not going to be financially viable.
I'll be just selling the extras that I have left from this first batch then I think that will be it.

Don't know if we'll be taking insurance out with them yet! But I have just come across this insurance company that specialises in insurance for crafters if anyone is interested.

I have had insurance through here before, though not for penmaking. It's an artist's association which includes liability insurance with it's membership fee (£36), so it's a pretty cheap and easy way of covering yourself. It is for artists, and I've not read through all of small print, but it does mention 'crafts' on the key facts page here, so I assume pens would probably be covered.

I think the Ian Wallace scheme you linked to Paul, is just about the most popular one out there. That's not necessarily an endorsement, just an observation. When the question is asked on whatever forum or social media platform, all roads always seem to lead to Ian Wallace. They also happen to have links with the AWGB, which may account for their popularity.

For myself, aside from the public liability aspect, which I have covered elsewhere under a business policy, I decided long ago that any type of crafters' insurance was more or less a waste of money. There doesn't seem to be a level playing field for easy comparison of policies, and after public liability, what is possibly the most important key thing, theft from venues, is singularly not covered by any of them. So I decided to take the risk myself.
