I never tried to resin in my life, until today on a blank that Colin sent me, it one of three that he done for my son birthday. God what mess I made of it. So what need to know is, what is the best resin for turning a pen blank. As you can it is total crap, the resin I used was SigWong Igot it off Amazon. Sorry Colin but it look good at the time.

I don't cast, but have turned a few blanks of different resins. All require sharp tools, light pressure and a total avoidance of any heat build up.... I have found only one resin that I couldn't drill (long story) but as long as there fully cured, you should be good....

I don't cast very often, but a couple of years ago I was asked to do 21 "Class of 2021-22" pens for my grandsons class on leaving school.
I used Glass Cast which I bought from Turners Retreat and did label casting with the school name and logo and added 'class of 2021-22' to the image.
I did them in batches of 4 every 2 days to allow the cast blanks to cure enough to be stable outside the mould before moving to the next mix, and using the blanks after a further 2 days or so to allow them to fully cure before turning.
No pressure pot needed with care avoiding bubbles.
I used Sierra click kits. Here is a photo of some of themIMG_1539.jpeg (sorry about the quality it was just for my own records)

Hi i Have used glass cast resin in the past it is slightly cheaper in price to alumilte you can Cast without a pressure pot but it needs to set a bit longer to cure properly

From your pictures, it looks as though the tubes / resin got to hot and started to fracture John.
As has already been said, you have to keep the tool VERY sharp and light cutting to help stop this from happening.
This is why I sent you Three as it happens a lot of the time...
Keep practicing and if you need anymore, let me know
