Gary, if you have any machine wax go over the whole lathe with it and then polish off. It will help to stop spilt finishes etc from spoiling the paintwork.

And make sure the top of the tool rest is nice and smooth, they sometimes aren’t. Just go over it lightly with a file if it’s not very smooth.

I nearly gave it a spray of dry anti friction PTFE, Spray it on then wipe it off, it leaves a very fine film and keeps any rusting at bay.

I don't have any machine wax unfortunately but will put it on my shopping list

You're not wrong there, the old begging bowl was worked to it's limits, will take appx 3 months to repay everyone

From the little I have used it, I have to say it was definitely one of my better buys
