I wanted to back paint the blanks white and the tubes white to show the contrast between these and the ones I back painted Black, but I had no white spray paint and my wife let me use some white nail polish, but I didn't get the inside of the blank covered well nor the tubes so I didn't bother putting it on the kit I had ready. I used it as an experiment once I knew they were not good enough and on the lower blank I dyed the cones that were exposed with mahohany spirit dye and the top blank I left natural, so I think I will be dying them in future ones I turn, maybe some strange colours.

Interesting effect - the black works very nicely and I agree the dyeing looks stronger with the white colouring

Apart from the painting of the tubes and inside of the blank I like the cones both left as they are showing the pale yellow to the browns and also the dyed ones giving them a richer colour. Certainly a market for pens made with both.

Colour is hard to compare with a long blank and half blanks but the difference is stark. Certainly the made up pen is a winner.

I do wish I had waited until I had got some more white spray paint, but at least the effect can be seen between painting white or black.

The pens are very nice Peter do you use a preasure pot when casting?

Not normally, but I have seen a couple of bubbles trapped inside so if I make these again I will use pressure.
