Many thanks, the platter is also my favourite (& the wifes) piece to date - it now resides at my woodturning mentors house down in Lincolnshire as a thank you for his help since I took up turning 2 (or is it 3??) yrs ago.

I frequently use car sprays, tetrasyl is one widely available in the uk, but there are several. The base to these sprays is either a polyurethane or other which I can't remember nor find out from where I currently am, but with a bit of testing to make sure that it has adhered properly you can get some fantastic results with car sprays, they are very hard wearing, and are flexible to a degree
