Missed that - comment still applies!! Had to watch it three more times to check it was a police car and was still laughing. The best practical jokes are the simplest!
It reminded me so much of the jokes we used to play on the Russians, which we learnt later, they took seriously.
Every time we used to deploy east from Gibraltar we used to make a habit of routing through the Gulf of Sidra which was to the north of Libya, technically outside Libyan territorial waters, but Madman Gaddafi used to claim this area as his as the water was shallow and suitable for use as an anchorage which he used to invite the Russians to use, just to provoke the rest of the world. We used to provoke him back by routing through his waters and a stream of diplomatic protests followed every incursion.
We used to have a competition on board to make the most fatuous looking piece of additional equipment and stick it somewhere plausible on top of the ships superstructure. One year one guy nicked two metal ridged bins from Main Street in Gibraltar, bought them back o board, ground the bottom off both and welded them together, painted them battleship grey and stuck them on the hangar roof. He cut a slit in them and sat in the bins whilst we transitted the Russian anchorage with a broom stick pointed out of the slit with a furry BBC like outside broadcast microphone stuck on the end. We passed the russian ships at a range of about 100 metres and the number of photos they took of this, and many other "amendments" to our structure must have tied their intelligence idiots up for ages, I just hope they found out that it was a block sat in a dustbin with a hangover and that it took them ages to find out what it was!!!
