Sorry I haven't checked back sooner. I think the notifications are being blocked by my ISP. I have the same problem on the Australian forum.

Stunning! Any chance of some details on how you went about it?
Sure. The kit is just a long clicker. I think I got if from CSUSA, but it could have been Timberbits. I 1st painted the tube a satin black, and sprinkled some dirt from the floor on the wet paint. After it dried, I gently brushed off the dirt to let some of the brass show through. Next I covered the lower half of the tube with a copper mesh I found at Michaels (a hobby store in the US). I then used some flat paint colors to try and give everything a rusted look. It actually looked better before I cast it.

I then turned a walnut blank down and drilled it for the tube. I cut the blank where the centerband is. I then drilled it with a slightly larger bit to go over the wire mesh. The planks come from a wooden model ship I plan to finish (someday). The copper bands are just copper tape that I added to give separation from the different elements. I distressed the wood to give it sort of a shipwreck look. All I did was use some walnut sawdust over the basswood to give it the aged look then gently wiped it down to remove any excess.

The green wire at the top was just to give it a bit of color. Then everything was cast in PR.

All in all, this was a fun pen to make. I know this style isn't for everyone. And frankly, it's the only one I've ever done like it. But that was the theme of the PITH, and I really like the ones that challenge my imagination.

I take my hat off to you Bsea, to do this amount of work for a trade is mind boggling .. It would have broke my heart to see this in someone else's hands .. Love it!!
Thanks Jim. The way I look at it, is I can make a basic pen that will impress most people that don't turn pens. But I know that another pen turner will look at my pen with a critical eye, and I want them to be pleased with he pen they receive. I think my best pens have gone to other pen makes in trades.
