Hi Everyone
Been Long time since I looked on here, in fact had to get a new password cos I'd forgotten it!
I was reading a question bout CA Glue but then lost it, so couldnt reply! Someone asking bout "Best" CA glue to use
Well, I'm only a novice pen maker but some might find my imput useful.
I use Powerbond 806 Industrial Strength Adhesive as a finish an have no problems at all an rarely use more than two coats to get a great finish. Also I found that just using steam will activate the finish so I rarely use a shop bought activator I just put my lathe on slowest revolutions an drip few drops of Powerbond on turnings whilst spreading it with clean lint free cloth gently. then I use a small hand held steamer (whilst still turning) for 2-3 seconds to harden glue, wipe off wetness an job done Then, if not happy, I fine sand using 400+ an repeat process. Completed! As stated, I'm a Novice but I have no problems
Beat wishes

I very rarely need to re-sand these days. I use three drops of CA (thin or super thin preferably) per section of the pen. Spray with activator whilst still revolving. If any whiteness appears ( if I’ve been heavy handed with the spray) then just wiped it off with a cloth and some boiled linseed oil. Works like magic and provides a smashing surface shine for the next coat. Tend to do 3 or four coats all in all though have done as many as ten if I’m looking to get really glasslike finish. I then usually finish off by going through micro mesh pads upto 12000.

However, I still find that melamine laquer is probably the quickest and easiest finish to apply, especially if I don’t have the time or inclination to faff around with glue! 👍😀

I very rarely us CA these days, tooo many other finishes to faff about with... I did use BSI Gold for a while as it was odourless and quick, but it's mainly Melamine or Monocoat (or Truoil on greasy woods) 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
