Two pens for our Veterans

I made these two pens up with kits and blanks that were donated one segmented not by me it looks like Purple heart, padauk and sumit wood and one in Wenge

Two nice pens. How do you deal with the open grain of the Wenger? I went sand with CA. The slurry fill the gaps nicely and doesn't detract the beauty of the wood.
