    More restoration

Just a couple of my tool restorations. Both these screwdrivers were given to me by Neil Lawton that well known retriever of tools in need of attention. The smaller ratchet screwdriver is a Moore and Wright and was only ratcheting in one direction, the plating on the ferrule was nearly worn...

    Just playing

I have, as a newby to all this been trying to practice hollowing things (small scale) then thought what would happen if I mixed wood and an offcut of acrylic... PS I know what’s wrong with it but what the hell it was fun to learn on small bits of wood and off cuts... Kevin:banana:

    CA and the use of

When you use CA it's a bit like mustard, you waste more than you actually use. You try to squeeze gently but it still comes out like the Amazon river, well it does for me anyway. The tyres were CA's to the rims as they would not hold with the clamping system of the rims. We came a across some...

    Bandsaw blade problems!

Im having real issues with keeping my bandsaw supplied with blades - Im generally having to buy a new blade every month or so and Im not sure what is going wrong. The last blade I got from Tuffsaw started to wander when ripping some iroko and the more cuts I did the worse it got until I...

    advice on painting tubes

I am looking at painting some tubes white to give a better background for resin blanks. What is the best type of paint to use and do you need to prime? I predominately use acrylic for model making and hope this would be good enough. Once painted is it OK to use CA glue to bond blank to tube?

    Failed Knife

I turned a letter opener but it got spoiled when I sprayed it with melamine lacquer. The pyrography usually separates the colours, but this time the green and yellow mingled quite badly. I'm wondering if it would be better to go down the acrylic route with acrylic sanding sealer and acrylic...

Graduate of the Bill Mooney pen finishing school

    Advice for finishing ebonite?

Wet sanding (to 15K) and plastic polish give me a great finish on acrylic and CA. Ebonite is a new challenge? And thoughts would be appreciated.

    Finishing a hybrid

Quick question for you. I've just made my first hybrid pen. It is about 50/50 blue optic-cast resin and stabilised poplar burl. I've have taken it back to 12000 grit and it looks great.... but.... If it was a wood pen, I would now finish it using the Melamine technique, if it was acrylic I...
