I've got the Record AC 400 Brad and it works a treat - not too noisy and 3 levels of use - you can blow the filters with an airline to refresh them. Came as a surprise the amount of dust it picks up. Cheaper than the Jet as well

Yes, I've got one of these as well. The timer is useful, I set it to stay on for an hour when I leave the workshop.

I have the larger Jet one and it's relatively quiet to everything else.
The only problem I've every had is with "Dirty mains". Some tools with brush motors can make it turn off but it is quiet enough to not notice.

Spikes Peter.
Also known as electrical noise.

Heck spikes can be relentless, my sympathy are you near an industrial something. Two things happen on sudden load the voltage drops, compensation takes place quicky causing spikes, not much can be done about that. The test would be unless they the culprit works v24/7 is no spikes when industry closes.

Peter.
