My neighbour thought that the log that she was about to put into her woodburner has too pretty a grain to burn so she gave it to me.
I made this box for her using the timber, which was a pig to sand. The rest of the box comes from a Mahogany fireplace her husband was getting rid of, and a wee bit of a broken gun stock which Mark @flexi identified as African Hyedua.
The log was a bit of Ash.IMG_0387.JPGThe neighbour is designing a handle for it.
