Wenge is interesting ,perfect for this turning, looks great and should be well received Graham. Just this week I was thinking of making some of these I favoured the one piece up till now but your pencil convinces me the centre band is what I will buy.

Thanks for the comments guys, the "dust" is sitting in the grain and only visible under the flash - it appears to be a reflection from the finish. However, the seed of doubt is now sown!
