What clearance

Sorry, that's a bit of an odd phrase.
What I am trying to ask is what clearance should I be aiming for between the brass tube and the blank. In other words, how do I figure out which drill bit to use?
This comes about because I bought some Delta and Zeta kits from TM at the UKIWS show and they didn't come with 'idiot guides'. The info on their website hasn't helped either and so I turn to the fount of all knowledge . . .
Help please.

Hi Mike,
the Delta as I understand are standard type 7mm holes and the Zeta shows a 9mm drill required on the website.
I am sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon to confirm this, or not as the case may be.

Just use a vernier to measure that tubes and then select the best fit Drill bit, always measure the tubes regardless of how many you have made of the same kit, tubes can vary between batches.

You need room for the glue. I add around 0.2mm to the tube diameter. The test is to insert the tube in the wood hold vertically: it should go through by itself and fall down. My opinion is that too tight a fit is a bad idea.

I measure the tubes before hand internally and externally. The internal I learn from a go no go holder I use for holding during sanding the brass. Too tight in the bin.

Externally caliper.

This is great when you want a ball park figure with spare blanks then zip bags.

Peter.

Despite the instructions I find that 9mm is a wee bit too tight for the Zeta. 23/64 is better (9.128) but 9.1 would do. Whichever you can more easily get hold of.

I also use the 2 gauges Brad shows after Woody said he uses them. What's good enough for Lord Woody is good enough for me!

Thanks Folks.
I guess the next step is to look for some drill bits. 8.1 and 9.1 mm of imperial close matches seem to fill the bill.
I'll do a bit of surfing but I think I remember UK Drills or similar being mentioned in a different thread.
Thanks again.
Mike.
